New Hobby - Local Postcard Collection

One of the hobbies I loved while growing up was corresponding or penpalling. I loved the surprise of receiving letters and souvenirs in the mail. However, as is usually the case with teenagers and young adults, life gets busy and slowly, the exchange of letters becomes less frequent and eventually stops altogether.

Earlier this year, I joined a penpal group and have begun writing letters again. I currently have 5 active penpals: 1 from Italy, 1 from Finland, 1 from the UK and 2 from Austria. They are all wonderful young ladies who I also keep in touch with on Facebook.

One of my penpals is an avid user of Postcrossing and recommended it to me. I loved the idea of being able to collect postcards from all over the world and being able to send postcards from my country to others. Yesterday, I requested and got the addresses of the first 5 recipients of my postcards. I can't wait to receive some too! I plan to create albums (both electronic and hardcopy) of all the postcards I receive.

While shopping for my first batch of postcards to send, another idea dawned on me. Why not try to make a collection of local postcards too which I can share on this blog. So from time to time, I will post pictures of local postcards that I may stumble across. Below are the first two:

 The island of Trinidad

 The island of Tobago
