Sixty-four kilometers south of the capital city of Port of Spain and bounded by the Gulf of Paria on the west, lies the city of San Fernando, which was built picturesquely around what was once called Naparima Hill, so that the hill itself, rises like a giant monument from the center of the city.
My home village is on the outskirts of the city and San Fernando Hill (as it is now called) has always been a prominent landmark seen from every direction as one heads to the city. I only recently got the privilege to go to the top of the hill, to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings from that height and to marvel at the landscaping done to make the hill a natural place for picnics and entertaining.
