Shining Inheritance (Brilliant Legacy)

OMG!!!

This hasn't happened to me in a long time. Maybe it's because a couple of years ago, my heart got badly bruised but since then, I've tended to shy away from books and movies with an obvious romantic theme. So what exactly made me open it up to this television series, I am not sure.

Shining Inheritance (aka Brilliant Legacy) is a Korean drama (with english subtitles) which aired in 2009. It is currently being shown in Trinidad and Tobago on CNMG on Saturdays. I looked at the first 15 episodes on television and became so completely addicted to it (and this is no exaggeration) that I could not bear the thought of having to wait 13 more weeks to get to the end of the series (there are 28 episodes). So, I did what any other completely obsessed person would do...I took a weekend and looked at all the episodes online!!!

It may sound silly but I laughed with the characters, I cried with them and got angry when things went wrong. It's been so long since anything stirred so much emotion in me! Oh, but it's not just the story and characters, it was the music too. After watching all the episodes, I felt such an intense feeling of loss (there's no more) that I began listening to the soundtrack repeatedly. Although they are not in english, all the songs have the ability to evoke the same emotions I experienced while watching the episodes (when they were played in the background).

There were so many scenes that I simply will never forget...the obvious ones (like the Bridge scene when Hwan confesses he loves her or their first date or when Eun Sung asks him to wait for her in the middle of the street) but also some of the less dramatic scenes which slowly led to them developing feelings for each other (like when Hwan went with her to the cemetery, when he saw her after the makeover, the crowded bus scene when he kept her next to him, when they were in the caves and he caught the water so that it wouldn't drip and wet her...). There are just so many! It's no wonder really that they won the 2009 SBS Drama Awards for Best Couple!

Like a true addict, I won't be giving it up anytime soon. I plan to watch all 28 episodes again and again and I will encourage others to join my addiction (hehe)! It's selling on Amazon.com for US$109.99!!!

  1. Sure... I can try that. I'm not much into TV serials, but since you are bragging so much about this particular one, i'll give it a try. :-)
